AMIkids and Mote Marine Laboratory work together to provide a monthly Floating Classroom for youth on board a 65ft research vessel. The classroom is a way for students to become more engaged with the local environment and inspires them to look at different ways to better protect planet earth. The half-day excursion consists of lessons taught by educators from Mote including the exploration of different animals, a plankton tow, and samples collected measuring salinity content throughout the Greater Tampa Bay. While the day is spent focusing on the different scientific areas, students are also given the opportunity to learn more about boating safety and the different operational components within the boat.
The partnership between AMIkids and Mote has experienced tremendous growth and with both organizations working toward the same goals students will continue to experience a brighter tomorrow. Check out the most recent story produced by Mote about the classroom: http://bit.ly/2y1vQX1.
