Welcome to Justin Day, our new National Board Chair!

AMIkids Inc., a nationally-recognized, nonprofit organization that transforms troubled youth into responsible members of our communities, is proud to welcome Justin Day as the new National Board Chair for the organization. 

“Our National Board provides invaluable oversight and guidance to our organization, helping to strengthen our mission of serving at-risk youth,” said Michael Thornton, President & CEO, AMIkids Inc. “Mr. Day has a great history with our organization, and is a well-respected member of his community for his professional and personal accomplishments. His leadership will be a great asset to our mission over the next two years.”

Day currently manages Capital City Consulting’s office here in Tampa.

A graduate of Florida State University’s distinguished Applied American Politics and Policy Master’s degree program, Day has put politics into practice and is well-regarded as one of Florida’s top strategists. Upon finishing his education, Justin was a professional campaign consultant and raised nearly $13 million for various candidates, culminating in managing the finance operations for a gubernatorial campaign where he led a team of fundraisers and handled donor relations.

Subsequently, Justin Day opened the Tampa office for The Advocacy Group, where he lobbied local and state governments.  In 2018, Mr. Day was hired as a Partner at Capital City Consulting, one of Florida’s largest lobbying firms.  Mr. Day’s focus is on local and state lobbying, and advocates for his clients in various fields including; transportation, development, technology, healthcare and construction.   Mr. Day has been an active community member, having served on the board of the Tampa Chamber of Commerce, and is currently a board member of the Hillsborough Community College Foundation and appointed by Florida’s Agriculture Commissioner to the Florida State Fair Authority Board of Directors.

Mr. Day has been involved with AMIkids since 2011.  His past services to the organization include serving as AMIkids Tampa Board Chair, Chair AMIkids Resource Development Committee, and member of the Executive Committee of the AMIkids National Board.  


Pursuant to Florida statute 216.1366, Florida state funds were used for renumeration to the following officers of the corporation.

President and Chief Executive Officer, Michael Thornton: $8,911.82; Chief Financial Officer, Maria Porto-Duarte: $3,628.71; and Vice President, Support Services: Rosemary Brackman: $3,717.12.

No renumeration was provided to any member of the board of trustees.
