Operation Get Smart Visits AMIkids Piedmont

May 26, 2015

The Operation Get Smart program from Columbia, SC visited AMIkids Piedmont on Friday, May 22, 2015. Operation Get Smart (OGS) is a crime prevention/public awareness program sponsored by the South Carolina Department of Corrections. It was implemented in 1976 and for more than past 38 years OGS has been a model program used by other states interested in implementing effective crime prevention programs. The program is aimed primarily at youth in an effort to deter them from making poor decisions resulting in criminal behavior and prison sentences.

Our students were very attentive and asked lots of questions. Three of the inmates made presentations and were interested in helping our students make better decisions and to make positive changes. The inmates' stories resonated with our kids and will stick with them as they graduate and stay on positive paths to success.
