AMIkids Family Services

AMIkids Family Services believes that family involvement is a critical component of prevention and intervention for youth experiencing behavioral health, child welfare, and/or juvenile justice needs. To engage families and provide skills for supporting youth success, AMIkids developed the Family Centric ModelTM, a research-informed, community-based model for youth and families.

Impact

AMIkids delivers the Family Centric Model™ (FCM) services to families as an overlay service for youth and their families participating in AMIkids programs. The model was initially evaluated through a randomized clinical trial in partnership with the Justice Research Center (JRC), an experienced external research firm specializing in outcome evaluation for over 25 years. The study tested FCM’s effectiveness with both prevention and probation youth.

Results showed that youth receiving FCM services experienced greater reductions in oppositional defiant, aggressive, and rule-breaking behaviors compared to a control group. Parents also reported improvements in family communication, behavior management, and overall family functioning.

Over the three-year evaluation, AMIkids provided FCM services to 812 youth and their families. Key outcomes included:

• 97% of youth remained crime-free while receiving services

• 89% remained crime-free after completing the program

• Among families who voluntarily participated, 96% of youth remained crime-free, compared to the national average of just 45% in the 12 months following services

These results highlight the effectiveness of the Family Centric Model in helping youth succeed and families thrive.
