At AMIkids, experiential education is what sets us apart. We believe young people grow most when they have meaningful opportunities to learn, explore, and discover their strengths through real-world experiences. Our experiential education model goes beyond skills and knowledge. Through hands-on challenges, community connections, career exploration, and unique learning opportunities, youth build confidence, strengthen healthy behaviors, develop resilience, and gain the tools they need to succeed in life. Every experience is intentionally designed to inspire growth, spark new passions, and help young people discover their own potential.

SUMMER & WINTER CHALLENGE
Our Summer and Winter Challenge Events are not just competitions; they are life-changing experiences that teach essential life skills in a dynamic, engaging environment. Through academic contests, Olympic-style athletic events, and creative challenges, our youth learn the value of perseverance, teamwork, and goal setting.
These semi-annual events are designed to foster pro-social behaviors and empower youth to achieve personal milestones. Whether it’s excelling in a quiz bowl or crossing the finish line in a track event, each victory builds confidence and instills a sense of accomplishment that carries over into all aspects of life.
WILDERNESS CHALLENGE
The Wilderness Challenge takes our youth into the great outdoors, where they confront their fears, build resilience, and learn to trust themselves and their peers. Each outdoor activity becomes a powerful metaphor for life’s challenges, teaching them that with courage and support, they can overcome any obstacle.
- Camping: Promotes resourcefulness and self-reliance, empowering youth to thrive in unfamiliar environments.
- Rafting: Builds teamwork and collaboration, highlighting how each person’s effort directly impacts the group’s success.
- Ziplining: Encourages participants to face fears, boosting confidence and strengthening team bonds.
- Hiking: Fosters connection and camaraderie as young people share the journey, learning the value of support and shared purpose.
Our youth complete the Wilderness Challenge with a deep sense of accomplishment and a renewed belief in their own potential.
MARINE CHALLENGE
The Marine Challenge transports our youth to the breathtaking waters of the Florida Keys, where they embark on a journey of discovery and growth through a series of unforgettable, life-changing activities:
- Kayaking: Strengthens communication, teamwork, and leadership as youth learn to navigate and synchronize their efforts on the water.
- Boat Handling: Cultivates responsibility, respect for rules, and forward-thinking, teaching essential life skills in a dynamic setting.
- Fishing: Instills patience and resilience, highlighting the importance of perseverance and learning through trial and error.
- Snorkeling & Scuba Diving: Inspires self-confidence and empowerment, showing youth they can conquer any challenge they set their minds to.
For many participants, the Marine Challenge begins with an introductory swimming lesson – a vital step that ignites a powerful transformation. What starts as a hesitant entry into the water becomes a leap into a world of endless possibilities, turning “I can’t” into “I can” and opening their minds to a future full of potential.
ADVENTURE FOR ALL
Outdoor experiences are crucial for underserved youth. While our signature Challenge Events are transformative, funding limitations mean not all programs can participate. To bridge this gap, we’ve developed regional and local adventure programs to bring these impactful experiences closer to home, including:
- Regional Adventures: Overnight trips like Ropes Adventures, River Adventures, and Ocean Adventures.
- Local Experiences: Day engagements such as Marine Education Courses, Fishing Clinics, Floating Classrooms, and Volunteering.
Our goal is to make these life-changing opportunities available to every young person in our programs.
